Historical Note	Series of correspondence and other documents that chronicle Van Allen's activities during the year of 1914. In June 1914, Van Allen was at Camp Sewell, Manitoba, with B Squadron of the 27th Light Horse. In August, he received a telegram with detailed instructions on raising a contingent for service overseas, with the designation Officer Commanding OVerseas Contigent. He left for England and France and wrote two letters to his parents while stationed overseas in October and November 1914.
