Part
of a
series
of

activities
in
1917
. He
began
the
year
with an
appointment
to
raise
Forestry
Battalion
reinforcements
,
which
he
intended
to
eventually
lead
overseas

March
,
Van
Allen
received
instructions
to
transfer
the
unit

raised
to the
230th
Forestry
Battalion

Officer
Major

who
has a
lower

. Not
wanting
to
serve

Despite

concessions
made
to

over
the

, he was
removed
from the
Canadian

May
of
1917
. His
association
with the
militia
unit
,
27th
