Historical Note	Part of a series of correspondence that documents the activities of William Van Allen in 1916. Allen began the year as the Commanding Officer of 100 Squadron, No. 3 Base Canadian Remount Depot, First Canadian Expeditionary Force. In March 1916 the Remount Depot was disbanded and Van Allen was sent to Shorncliffe, Kent, England for training. As he was not given another position with in the Canadian Expeditionary Force overseas, he returned to Canada and was hired as Supervisor of Regimental Transport at Camp Hughes, Manitoba. While employed at Manitoba, Van Allen attempted to find a position raising a new Battalion within Saskatchewan, without success. After his employment at Camp Hughes ended, in November, he went to Ottawa and eventually secured a position raising reinforcements for a Forestry Battalion in December 1916.
