began
the
year
as the
Commanding
Officer
of
100
Squadron
,
No
.
3
Base
Canadian
Remount
Depot
,
First
Canadian
Expeditionary
Force
. In
March
1916
the
Remount
Depot
was
disbanded
and
Van
Allen
was
sent
to
Shorncliffe
,
Kent
,
England
for
training
. As he was not
given
another
position
with in the
Canadian
Expeditionary
Force
overseas
, he
returned
to
Canada
and was
hired
as
Supervisor
of
Regimental
Transport
at
Camp
Hughes
,
Manitoba
.
While
employed
at
Manitoba
,
Van
Allen
attempted
to
find
a
position
raising
a
new
Battalion
within
Saskatchewan
,
without
success
.
After
his
employment
at
Camp
Hughes
ended
, in
November
, he
went
to
Ottawa
and
eventually
secured
a
position
raising
reinforcements
for a
Forestry
Battalion
in
December
1916
.
